On July 28, Gov. Lee held a press conference on the return to school. At that conference, Dr. Lisa Piercey, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health, stated that the Tennessee Department of Health would not be publicizing statistics on COVID-19 cases arising from schools. (see press conference at 36:30) On August 4, Gov. Lee reversed course and said his office is working on a plan "that would allow schools to share information."
TEA thinks it is important to track rates of COVID-19 infections in our schools. Monitoring the numbers falls to us, and we need your help. In order to effectively advocate for our members, we must have this data.
