Affiliates, Sections and Departments

Affiliates are local education associations that meet all active membership criteria of the National Education Association and TEA.

 

Sections are related to TEA as determined by the TEA Board of Directors. According to the TEA Constitution and Bylaws, the Board can grant affiliation to a subject matter or a job assignment section on a statewide basis and direct the executive director to issue the proper certification subject to the following provision:

 

  1. Its membership shall not be restricted because of race, color, creed, sex, or national origin;
  2. It shall file annually a list of its officers with the Tennessee Education Association. These officers must be members of the Tennessee Education Association;
  3. It shall keep an up-to-date constitution on file with the Tennessee Education Association; 
    Its goals and objectives should complement those of the Tennessee Education Association;
  4. It shall periodically furnish evidence of an ongoing program;
  5. Attendance at its annual meetings shall average at least twenty TEA members for the preceding three-year period;
  6. Its affiliation shall continue automatically from year to year subject to the provisions of this section.

 

Departments are statewide broad area interest groups that are created by TEA. Currently these are: 

 

  1. The Department of Administration [The Tennessee Association of School Administrators (TASA);
  2. The Department of Higher Education; and
  3. The Department of Retired Teachers [The Tennessee Retired Teachers Association (TRTA)].

 

Financing and services of the Association to a department are subject to the following provisions:
